[cacti-user] Cacti Graph Suddenly Missing

I need help. Suddenly most of the graph on cacti is missing. What I mean
missing is starting at a time the graph is stop showing.

I have test with other snmp tools (prtg, mrtg) there is no problem with
all devices which is monitored by cacti. More strange, there still a few
graph work normally.

The only error I can get is the one below, when I do ps -A
rrdtool <defunct>

Anyone can help ?

Duswanto

I'm not sure why, but the graphs in my cacti are back. I haven't change
any configuration except renaming the cacti.log file and change the Log
Setting to DEBUG (which I have changed back to LOW now). I try the RRD
Tool fetch to some of the devices, and receive many NANs.

Many thanks to Sini and Reinhard for their help. If you don't mind, I have
another question. Since I rename cacti.log to cacti.log.original, cacti
doesn't make a new cacti.log file. I don't want to rename the original log
to cacti.log, afraid the problem will reappear. Is there way to force
cacti to make a log file again ?

Duswanto

the log directory must be owned by cactiuser, the user that runs the
poller from crontab. Here's what my log file looks like, when newly created

-rw-rw-rw- 1 cactiuser cactiuser 0 Nov 4 10:05 cacti.log

And I'm quite sure, that creating the log file will do no harm.
Here's my crontab:

# cacti latest version
4 0 * * * cactiuser cp /var/lwww/html/cacti/log/emptyfile
/var/www/html/cacti/log/cacti.log
*/5 * * * * cactiuser /usr/bin/php
/var/www/html/cacti/poller.php > /var/www/html/cacti/log/poller.log 2>&1

The first line empties my log file 4 after midnight. This avoids
screwing up in case I forgot to reset logging level.
The second line is slightly modified. It creates a new log file
log/poller.log on each run. You'll find here some more logging infos
that may be helpful
BTB: http://forums.cacti.net holds many more infos and there's much more
traffic. So please consider posting there

Hi,

I am glad that your graphs are back but i don`t really see what cause
this?

RE: Is there way to force cacti to make a log file again ?
Cacti won`t do that, but you can make a logrotate config file to do
that. I do roatate my cacti.log file weekly, with no problem.

Hi,

Does the rrd files contains any values?
Try to fetch data from one of your non working graph data source (rrd)
file.

For example to get the last 1 hour data type this in the command line
(linux box):
"rrdtool fetch /path_to_cacti/rra/file.rrd AVERAGE -r 900 -s -1h"

if you see something like:

1162554300: nan nan
1162554600: nan nan
1162554900: nan nan
1162555200: nan nan
1162555500: nan nan

your poller was unable to fetch correct values from your device or the
data source template you are using is wrong.

This can happen when you modify one of your template which you already
used somewhere.

For example this happened to me when I modified my "interface-traffic"
template and all of my traffic graphs gone...(fortunately it was a
testing cacti box, uhhh..)

If the above rrdfetch command results correct values try to create a
new data-source with the old rra file and see what is going to happen.

Sini, your right. I do as you told and here is what I get :

# rrdtool fetch rra/mikrotik_jakarta_5min_cpu_8.rrd AVERAGE -r 900 -s -1h
timestamp 5min_cpu

1162601700: nan
1162602000: nan
1162602300: nan
1162602600: nan
1162602900: nan
1162603200: nan
1162603500: nan
1162603800: nan
1162604100: nan
1162604400: nan
1162604700: nan
1162605000: nan
1162605300: nan
1162605600: nan

can you suggest how to fix this problem ?
