Heh, the reason I developed the Monitor plugin, and took over the Threshold
paying license costs), and to integrate everything into one package, Cacti. He has
been more than pleased with Cacti so far, and I continue to surprise him every month
with new stuff it seems. I am currently writing my own SNMP Extension Agent to
monitor a few of our custom windows apps.
Post by Roy GrubbWas pretty simple I thought as we monitor temperature in all of our remote
NOC sites. We use units from akcp.com and set up pretty simple graphs
polling the snmp variables with gauge as source type. For the paging and emailing of
these units, we actually go a step further and use What's up Pro..

Subject: Re: [cacti-user] Using Cacti to Monitor Server Room Temperature
Post by Jimmy ConnerHi there -
1. Monitor server room temperature
As long as you have a Temperature probe that supports SNMP, or another way
of reporting via the network, than yes. You may have to write a custom script to
pull it, but its very easy. I don't have a SNMP enabled temperature probe, so just
monitor it via some of the motherboards in our servers (not CPU temperature, the MB
temp). Its not exact, but we can see when the temperature starts increasing.
2. Send out notifications via e-mail or pager if the temperature
exceeds a certain level.
Threshold Plugin makes this a snap, and its what we use.
If so, what temperature sensor is recommended for this configuration? Thanks.
Can't really recommend any since I have never used any of the commercial
ones. If you happen to run across any plans to make your own and possible access
it via serial or something, let me know!
