Discussion:
[cacti-user] Collecting multiple OIDs with the one data template

I'm trying to create a new data template to collect five different but
related OIDs from my SNMP agent. I can create five Data Source Items
for them, and that's okay, but I can't see where to tell Cacti which OID
to collect for which Data Source Item.

I could duplicate the generic OID template five times and change the OID
for each one, but this seems a bit clumsy for collecting five related
data points, when other data templates seem to do this already. I tried
looking at those to see how they associated the OIDs they're collecting
with their data source item entries either.

I'm obviously missing the glue that sticks all of this together and
makes it work, and all my work with Google has been fruitless, so can
anyone point this out to me, or at least point me in the right direction?

That's quite correct.
You may implement a script to implement the dependancies.

I have tried this before and not gotten it to work. Just to be sure
Reinhard, are you saying that you *cannot* do this with arbitrary OIDs
in cacti?

The pure SNMP way is indeed copying the generic SNMP template 5 times and
associate them in the graph template. If this does not fit your needs, the
script way of doing things is recommended.
Both ways should reach your goal.
Please ask if in doubt

Did anybody created templates for esx 3.5? I found the templates on the
forum, but the oids are not available on esx servers. What needs to be
done on the esx server so that enterprise mib can be walked (e.g.
.1.3.6.1.4.1.6876)?

Thanks,
